History:

Nevus spilus or speckled lentiginous nevus is relatively common. Up to 2% of the population may have one. Some are present at birth but most appear in the first year of life.The brown central dots are junctional,compound or dermal nevi ,the vast majority being junctional. These lesions do not need removed. The risk of melanoma developing is remarkably small and tends to occur in women on the back who have the giant variant of this lesion covering a significant surface area.. Extensive unilateral and zosteriform variants have also been described.
