History: This farmer had extra hay which was stored outside and became very damp. When he subsequently handled it he injured his skin and the site became contaminated by the organism Sporothrix schenckii which had grown in the mouldy hay. This condition can also be acquired from sphagnum moss and from rose thorn injuries. This presentation as a plaque is not the usual presentation which is a series of nodules spreading up the lymphatics of the arm from the site of injury.
