History: Sporotrichosis is due to one of the deep mycoses,Sporothrix schenckii. The fungus is found in mouldy hay or rotting wood and enters the skin through a relatively minor injury.Spread occurs up the local lymphatics depending on your level of immunity. The more immune you are the less it spreads.Spread to extracutaneous sites is likely in patients on oral steroids, diabetes, with alcoholism and HIV infection.
