History: Monilethrix, also known as beaded hairs, is a rare hereditary disease inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. It is characterized by dryness, fragility, and sparseness of the scalp hair. Under the light microscope, fusiform or spindle-shaped swellings along the hair shaft separated by narrow atrophic segments are seen. The hair tends to break at the delicate internodes.
