Differential DiagnosisHistory: Sudden onset of this rash after a preceding herpes simplex infection 10 days before. Erythema multiforme is a reaction pattern in the skin due to many causes including infections such as herpes simplex, drug reactions particularly to antibiotics and sometimes mycoplasmal chest infections.It is thought to be a Type 2 cytotoxic reaction to keratinocytes expressing a viral, bacterial or drug antigen.
