History: Collodion baby is a transitional state at birth which may precede the development of a variety of the ichthyoses including lamellar ichthyosis, non bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma, or trichothyodystrophy  The affected newborn is covered by a yellow brown parchment-like, glistening collodion membrane that cracks before or shortly after birth and then peels off in 2-4 weeks. Other features include eversion of eyelids (ectropion) and lips (eclabium) both of which improve as collodion membrane sheds.
