Differential DiagnosisHistory:
This 5 years old child was brought by his mother complaining of patches of hair loss for 2 weeks.o/e noted to have alopecia a.w scaling and erhthema of scalp.fungal culture confirmed the diagnosis of tinea capitis with the causative organism microsporum canis.
We started the child on sy microsized griseofulvin 150 mg od (child is 15 kgs), ketoconazole wash for the scalp and some miconazole cream.however even after 6 weeks of therapy there was only little improvement.compliance checked.we have referred him to peadiatric dermatologist for further treatment.
Just wondering was there anything else that we can offer to this child.
It takes a while for oral antifungals to work on the scalp.Oral lamasil could be used but I would persevere a bit longer (Submitted By: Dr Ian McColl)
