Differential DiagnosisHistory: Dermatitis herpetiformis was first described by Louis Duhring in 1884. DH is an immune-mediated blistering skin disease associated with a gluten sensitive enteropathy. The condition is characterized by the eruption of flesh-colored–to–erythematous vesicles in a herpetiform pattern, symmetrically distributed over extensor surfaces including elbows, knees, buttocks, shoulders, and the posterior scalp. Patients often present with erosions and crusts in the absence of vesicles.DH usually has its onset in the second to fourth decades but it may affect any age group.
