Differential DiagnosisHistory: Tinea nigra is a fungal infection of the skin seen in tropical areas due to the fungus Phaeoannellomyces werneckii.There is usually an injury to the skin allowing the fungus to enter.The macule is brown or black and slowly growing in the stratum corneum.It responds to topical antifungal therapy.To the uninitiated it may resemble a melanoma.
