Differential DiagnosisHistory: This is the classic presentation of Sweet's syndrome with red non scaly infiltrated plaques which come on quickly. The precipitating cause may be a respiratory or other infection, ocassionally a drug reaction. The rash is usually misinterpreted as an infection but is a form of neutrophilic reaction pattern in the skin.It responds quickly to oral steroids.Rarely the condition can be associated with an underlying myeloproliferative disorder.
