Differential DiagnosisHistory: Deposition of calcium deposits in the skin is known as calcinosis cutis. It was first described by Virchow in 1855. Disorders of calcinosis cutis may be categorized according to the type of calcification process, ie, dystrophic, metastatic, idiopathic, and iatrogenic. Connective tissue disorders complicated by calcinosis cutis include dermatomyositis; lupus erythematosus; systemic sclerosis; and CREST (calcinosis cutis, Raynaud phenomenon, esophageal dysfunction, sclerodactyly, telangiectasias).
