Differential DiagnosisHistory: Discoid lupus erythematosus can present in a more tumid form such as the lesions on this lady's cheeks and nose. She has the more typical red scaly lesions on her chest wall and features of scarring alopecia in her scalp. The facial lesions responded rapidly to a two week course of strong topical steroid and full sun protection measures. If treated early enough scarring on the skin itself can be minimised but some hypopigmentation may persist.
