Differential DiagnosisHistory:
A 7-year-old girl presented with localised hair loss confined to the frontal area of the scalp of three months duration. The lost hairs seemed to be cut at the scalp surface leaving black stubs of hair emerging from follicular papules. Direct examination of the hairs from the periphery of the alopecic patch yeilded fungal hyphae and spores.
