Differential DiagnosisHistory:
Oral lichen planus gives a characteristic white lacy pattern on the buccal mucosae and the lips.In severe cases there are oral erosions which are painful and may bleed. When you see severe oral lichen planus you should always look for a drug as the cause because if you find it and withdraw it this condition will rapidly clear. If no drug cause can be found the condition will persist for several years before burning itself out.
Oral steroids and retinoids are often required to try to control this condition.
