Halo nevi are an interesting problem. They may be single or multiple. The nevus in the centre is usually a benign compound nevus. Why an immunological attack occurs like this is not known. When multiple halo nevi occur the patient should be examined for signs of vitiligo.Very rarely the lesion at the centre of the hypopigmentation may be a melanoma.Other lesions that may be surrounded by an area of leukoderma include blue nevus, neurofibroma and a congenital nevus.
The central nevus disappears and at some time in the future repigmentation of the skin occurs.
