Differential Diagnosis

History: Facial peeling skin syndrome was first reported by Shahbaz in 2006.  It is a localized variant of peeling skin syndrome, characterized by continual peeling of the facial skin present since birth.  This is an extremely rare familial congenital disorder of keratinization. The condition is life-long and is usually generalized and characterized by shedding of thin flakes, although large sheets may peel off spontaneously or manually.
